This year, as every year since 1985, it will be on the third Thursday of November when the Beaujolais Nouveau, whose Gamay grape was harvested only last September, will arrive on tables and bars around the world, and also at the bar in Allégorie. The exact date will be November 21 this year.

The Beaujolais is a former French province, belonging to the government of Lyon, extending northwest of this city, partly on the plain, in the side of the Saône, partly in the homonymous mounts, which are part of the eastern flank of the Massif Central.

The Beaujolais wine comprises 12 appellations, including the Beaujolais and the Beaujolais Village, which are the most generic, while the other 10 correspond to «crus» of very variable characteristics, depending on the soil, exposure to the sun, microclimates and other variables.

Only the appellations Beaujolais and Beaujolais Village are used for the production, based on carbonic fermentation, of primor wine; while the 10 crus are dedicated to the production of wines for laying. Today, 50% of the total production of the region goes to the «nouveau» product, which allows winemakers to considerably shorten the production time, and make a profit from their work more quickly. This practice was born in 1951, and gradually became globalized, imposing in the eighties the date of the third Thursday of November, and the famous slogan «The New Beaujolais has arrived».

The astronomical figure of 40 million bottles is sold every year. Half are consumed in France, a quarter in Japan, and the last quarter in the rest of the world, the United States, Korea, European countries, and even in Africa and Australia.

Although some find that product too young and unstructured, everyone gives in to the tradition of tasting it every year, of finding a taste of banana or strawberry, as it is an extremely fruity wine, of swallowing it easily, as it is fresh, light and not very tannic, and of admiring its bright red colour, with violet reflections. After all, no matter what your taste is, the new Beaujolais is first and foremost tradition and celebration.

Allégorie customers will be able to participate in this tradition from November 21, ordering by the glass at the price of €4, and by bottle at the price of €21 the Beaujolais Village Nouveau from Trenel, by the M. Chapoutier group. They can accompany it with dishes from the bar, or even order dishes and desserts from the restaurant.
